5 Things You Should Do After You Declutter

Whether you’ve went through the declutter session with Organize For Love or you took the initiate to declutter on your own. I can bet you’re probably feeling a mix of emotions

Exhaustion?

Excitement?

Overwhelmed?

HEARD YOU SIS! If you don’t exactly know what to do next, I completely understand. Take it from someone who doesn’t know how to stop decluttering. But here are 5 things you should do after you’ve gotten rid of some things:

  1. NOTHING. LOL, yes nothing. Does that surprise you? I’m sure. The very first thing you should do after a declutter session is nothing because you’ll be tempted to do everything. Try and resist the urge to continue cleaning, organizing, and decluttering. Take a day to rest and restore your spirit. You didn’t just declutter material items but you went through years of memories which took a lot of emotional labor, recognize that. Do something relaxing, if you can rest for an extra hour or two, reflect on what you’re feeling and relish in what you’ve done.

  2. Create a list of those things that came to mind while you were decluttering of what you feel you need, title the list, “Organization Needs”. While you were going through your things, bagging them up, you most likely thought of what you needed, write those things down. 3. Survey the room/area you decluttered. Skim through the room/area and decide what it needs. Add those items to your organization needs list.

  4. Look over your organization needs list and consider if you already own those items. You’d be surprised at what tools you already have now that you have the clarity to use them. Also, you just decluttered your home, so you want to be conscious that you’re buying things that you need and not recreating your past experiences. So, before you go on that shopping spree to The Container Store, shop your home first.

Rebekah Christie
Rebekah Christie began creating accessories in 2009 when she was living in Philadelphia. She was having trouble getting use to Philly being her permanent residence so she stayed home for months. She then began designing headbands and hair accessories. She was discovering her inner designer which was the beginning of "Make it Happen". She grew up in a very creative household where her parents promoted and delved in the arts themselves. With the support and help from them she began a line of headbands, bangles, hair bows, and feather earrings. She sold her pieces at street festivals and markets in Philadelphia. In 2010 she moved back to New York, settling into Brooklyn for the next three years. Since she began her journey as a jewelry designer, she has built a following throughout New York City. Charmed Feathers has been sold at shops in Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, and D.C. CF has also been sold in France and Canada. "The guidelines I follows are adapted from my family and into my designs. Myfather is a man that does not fear color, and Charmed Feathers accessories are always colorful and vibrant. My mother is a woman who taught me to be myself and to not follow the crowd. I like to believe that being true to yourself is as natural as you can get". -Rebekah Christie In 2012 she attended the Art Institute of New York majoring in Fashion Merchandise and Marketing. She's currently attending Borough Manhattan Community College majoring in Business Management. She continues to be a self taught designer and educate herself on entrepreneurship
